Pregnant young woman kidnapped from Porto maternity hospital was found in Georgia, baby may have been sold
The 15-year-old pregnant teenager, kidnapped from a maternity hospital in Porto five years ago, has now been found in Georgia. She is believed to be accompanied by members of an international child trafficking network that has already been flagged by the Portuguese authorities.
She was allegedly trafficked and forced to beg on the main streets of Viseu in 2019. At the age of 15, she became pregnant and was admitted to the Júlio Dinis maternity hospital, but before even going into labor she was removed from the hospital discreetly and without prior notice by two women who have already been identified.
Both women are part of an international criminal network suspected of trafficking children in several European countries and Portugal is no longer an exception.
A source from the PSP confirmed to SIC that the teenager was now found in Georgia five years later, accompanied by members of the same criminal group and with a declaration of responsibility for the minor duly signed by the parents and considered valid.
The baby has not been located and its whereabouts remain unknown. The authorities admit that it was sold like other newborn children. The PSP reveals that since 2016, at least 30 children have been trafficked and forced into begging.
A business worth millions that requires ever greater coordination with foreign police forces.
