In Melitopol, two men were sentenced to 8 years in prison for robbery and theft

The Zaporizhia Regional Court sentenced two residents of Melitopol, who were found guilty of theft, illegal possession of weapons and robbery.
As reported by the press service of the court and the Office of the Judicial Department of the Zaporizhia region, the men who committed the crimes were sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony.
According to the case materials, on March 8, 2023, 59-year-old citizen G., having learned about his wife's intention to break up with him because of her relationship with another man, in a state of shock decided to "teach her a lesson" by taking with him an acquaintance M., born in 1970, who was capable of violence. On the same day, dressed in military uniforms and taking balaclavas, they drove up to the house of his wife G.'s sister in a Lada Granta, where, not finding her, they decided to commit a theft by breaking down the door of the apartment and stealing a TV.
After an unsuccessful attempt to find his wife at her place of work, the men returned to the apartment where G.'s wife was with her new friend. Under the pretext of checking documents, they burst in and, threatening with weapons, forced everyone to lie down on the floor. To intimidate them, G. and M. hit the victims with rifle butts and then took away their mobile phones so that they could not call the police.
Then G. forcibly took his wife out of the apartment, put her in a car, after which the men drove to G.’s place of residence, but were detained by the police that same evening.
The Melitopol Interdistrict Court found G. guilty on several counts and sentenced him to 8 years in prison. M. was also found guilty of similar crimes and received 8 years and 1 month.
The panel of judges for criminal cases of the Zaporizhia Regional Court left the verdict unchanged, confirming the legality and validity of the decision of the court of first instance.
