New safety islands to be built on Bolshaya Sankt-Peterburgskaya Street in Veliky Novgorod

In Veliky Novgorod, the implementation of the national project "Infrastructure for Life" is in full swing. The road company "Solid" has successfully completed work on Nekhinskaya Street and has already brought equipment to Bolshaya Sankt-Peterburgskaya. Currently, workers are busy on the section from Germana Street to Gazon Street. The progress of the work was checked by Denis Sergeev, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for the Management of Urban and Road Facilities of the City Administration.
Workers have already started removing the curbstone, and soon they will begin removing the top layer of asphalt. The contractor intends to complete the project by the end of September. On Bolshaya Sankt-Peterburgskaya, not only will the roadway be renewed, but the sidewalks will also be put in order, and new safety islands will be installed.
“Some of the most extensive work in the pedestrian zone will be carried out near the Rus shopping center and in the Five Corners area,” noted administration representative Denis SERGEEV.
The total length of the section of the street being repaired is 1.3 km. Work is currently underway on a 600-meter section. The contractor plans to begin milling on Monday. If the weather is favorable, workers will move on to laying the leveling layer of asphalt and installing new curbstone.
Large-scale works – milling and laying asphalt concrete pavement – will be carried out at night. This is necessary in order to avoid traffic jams and not create a collapse on the roads, because there is much less traffic at night.

“The contract for the work ends on November 1, and we plan to complete 80% of the roadway work and 70-80% of the sidewalk work by September 1,” said Nikolai AVETISYAN, Director of Production at Solid LLC.
Any road repair inevitably affects the organization of traffic. The contractor makes every effort to minimize inconvenience for motorists. Thus, the repair of Bolshaya Sankt-Peterburgskaya Street is carried out in two stages. First, on a 600-meter section, specialists will complete half of all the planned work so that cars can move without obstacles. After that, they will move on to the second stage on the remaining section of the street.
“This is how we worked on Nekhinskaya, and there were no particular traffic jams,” said a representative of the contractor.
By the way, the road on this street has already been paved. Some work on the sidewalks has also been completed, resulting in a new section of the pedestrian zone. Road signs are currently being installed and markings are being applied on Nekhinskaya Street.
The national project "Infrastructure for Life" provides for the improvement of the condition of four sections. In addition to Nekhinskaya and Bolshaya Sankt-Peterburgskaya, the program includes Lugovaya Street and a section of the road in the Shchuseva area. Work on Lugovaya will begin in mid- to late July, while on Shchuseva they are already actively underway.
