Old-fashioned method: wind forced Novgorodians to change tactics in fighting hogweed

In Veliky Novgorod, work is in full swing to destroy outbreaks of Sosnowsky's hogweed. This is being done by specialists from the City Economy Department. However, the developed plan for treating the territories was disrupted due to unfavorable weather conditions: strong winds made the use of chemicals dangerous, since the substance could fall on passersby, cars, and neighboring plants.

According to Ivan Goroshkin, head of the department for the maintenance of improvement facilities of the Municipal Institution "City Economy", under the current circumstances, herbicide treatment had to be postponed. Instead, employees of "City Economy" carry out mechanical removal of the plant where possible - manually uprooting the dangerous weed.

The city administration would like to draw the attention of Novgorod residents to the fact that information about the discovery of hogweed can be reported by calling 152-303 or by sending a photo and the address of the plant to the Gorkhoz community on VKontakte.

Let us add that in June, a UAV was used for the first time in the Novgorod region to combat Sosnowsky's hogweed. Chemical treatment of poisonous plants began in Bronnitsy in the Novgorod region.

The drone sprays pesticides from a height of 1.5 meters. The aircraft processes a hectare in 25 minutes. Manually, it takes a day. At the same time, 10 times more chemicals are consumed. But the drone cannot work in strong winds.

Now gusts of wind in Veliky Novgorod reach speeds of 50 km/h. Tomorrow the wind will weaken, and on Sunday rain is expected.
