What do we know about the America Party founded by Elon Musk?
Musk did not share this post as “areas the Party of America will focus on,” but the fact that he quoted it shows that he has adopted a program in this direction.
When looking at all these headlines, it is worth saying that Trump also rhetorically supports some of these articles.
Low regulation, a strong military and freedom of expression are among the themes that Trump frequently emphasizes. While Trump has a positive approach to investing in the defense industry, a modernization focused on advanced technology and artificial intelligence is only on Musk's agenda.
Elon Musk, who has long described himself as a Democrat, has significantly changed his political position with his support for the Republicans in the 2024 presidential election.
So was this transition sudden? No.
Musk has been particularly critical of the Democratic Party and left-wing circles over freedom of expression, technology regulation and censorship policies in recent years. During this period, he began to position himself closer to the right.
Musk was one of Trump’s biggest supporters in the presidential elections held on November 5-6, 2024. They attended rallies together, donated large amounts to Trump’s campaign, and more. After winning the election, Trump appointed Musk to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and Musk continued in this position until May.
During his tenure, Musk became known for implementing Trump's vision of reducing waste in government, laying off thousands of federal employees.
Trump and Musk’s relationship soured after Trump announced the tax bill and Musk’s public refusal to support it. Musk, the CEO of electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, opposed the bill because he believed it would both harm his company and unnecessarily increase the government’s influence over the economy.
Musk distanced himself from the bill in an interview with CBS News in May, shortly before announcing his departure from DOGE, saying, “A bill can be big or it can be beautiful. But I don’t know if it can be both.”
Musk, who sharpened his criticism in early June, called the bill “a huge, ugly, vested abomination.” Addressing his followers, Musk said, “Call your Senator, your Congressman… stop this bill!”
Musk, who promised to form a new party if the bill passes, kept his word and officially announced his party:
“At a ratio of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you will have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and corruption, we are living in a one-party system, not a democracy.
Today, the Party of America was founded to give you back your freedom.”
