Beware of long-lasting nosebleeds

While rising temperatures in summer bring with them many health problems, nosebleeds are among the common ailments during this period.
ENT Specialist Op. Dr. İsmet Çerçi stated that drying and cracking of the nasal mucosa, especially in hot weather, can trigger nosebleeds. "Air conditioning use, excessive sun exposure, and inadequate fluid intake increase the sensitivity of the blood vessels in the nose, which can lead to bleeding," he said.
Op. Dr. İsmet Çerçi stated that nosebleeds are particularly common in patients with hypertension, explaining, "High blood pressure puts pressure on the capillaries in the nose. Therefore, people with high blood pressure should be more careful during the summer months and take symptoms like nosebleeds seriously."
Op. Dr. Çerçi emphasized that mechanical factors such as nose picking and blowing the nose hard can also cause intranasal trauma.
Op. Dr. İsmet Çerçi also provided information on what to do when experiencing a nosebleed, saying, "The person should tilt their head slightly forward and pinch the nostrils with two fingers for 5-10 minutes. Applying a cold compress can also be helpful. However, if the bleeding lasts longer than 20 minutes, you should definitely seek medical attention."
Op. Dr. İsmet Çerçi added that children and the elderly are especially sensitive in this regard and that the necessary precautions should be taken.
