First statement from Altan Öymen's daughter: We succumbed to a tiny virus

Regarding the death of former CHP Chairman Altan Öymen, his daughter, Aslı Öymen, made a statement outside the hospital. She explained that her father, Altan Öymen, had been doing well after surgery, but had succumbed to a virus. Aslı Öymen said:

"GETTING NEWS, GIVING NEWS AND SHARING THEM WAS DONE WITH GREAT PRIDE"

We lost my father about an hour and a half ago. A month and a half ago, my father had a serious, major, and significant lung surgery. Despite his age, the surgery went very well. Everything had returned to normal. For six weeks, all his checkups were done, we celebrated his birthday, and we began to have a wonderful time together. For six weeks, he was wonderful, as always, busy with national issues, his own books, and his writings. As I said, everything was going well, but about 15 days ago, my father's values deteriorated. We succumbed to a virus, a tiny one in fact. He developed pneumonia. We came to the hospital, and we couldn't cope with that pneumonia. He couldn't cope either, but until the very last moment, three days ago, he was admitted to intensive care. Until then, my father read the newspapers every day. As always, he continued to be involved and preoccupied with national issues. We always talk about national issues and politics, and we continued in the same way here in the hospital. But as I said, three days ago, my father unfortunately succumbed to this virus, pneumonia. Here's a little bit. We, as a family, are deeply saddened by his loss. May he rest in peace. Journalism was the most important profession for my father, seeing you now. He took great pride in gathering news, reporting, and sharing them, and he continued his journalism career throughout his life. He continued to write a weekly column for Cumhuriyet Newspaper at this age. He was 93 years old, and he did it with great pleasure. He had book projects. As I said, may he rest in peace. May he rest in peace. The funeral service—more or less—will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM in Ankara, in front of Parliament. There will be a ceremony in front of the Republican People's Party headquarters at 3:00 PM. His funeral will be at the Teşvikiye Mosque on Tuesday at 1:00 PM. Then, he will be buried next to my mother in the family plot at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
