The discovery of the bodies of 13 miners allegedly kidnapped by organized crime gangs in Peru has shocked the country and sparked international outrage .

Shocking images of the case and a video of the discovery are already circulating on social media. All the bodies were bound hand and foot and showed gunshot wounds , indicating a systematic execution.

What happened to the miners of Peru?

According to local media outlet Perú21 , the bodies were found on Sunday, May 4, inside a sinkhole in the province of Pataz , in the La Libertad region, in the north of the country. Reports indicate that the workers were kidnapped on April 26 by members of a criminal organization led by Miguel Rodríguez Díaz , alias "Cuchillo."

This criminal gang operates in illegal mining areas and is known for its use of extreme violence to control territories and resources. According to preliminary information, following the kidnapping, Peruvian authorities attempted to establish communication and negotiations with the criminal group. However, after receiving no response, a search operation was launched that lasted several days.

A week later, authorities discovered the pit containing the bodies of the 13 miners, in what has been described as a gruesome mass murder . The case has sparked a wave of outrage, both due to the brutality of the crime and the growing insecurity in regions controlled by criminal gangs.

The Peruvian government has yet to issue an official statement on the case, although operations against organized crime in Peru 's mining areas are expected to intensify.
