City services assessed the consequences of winds and rains in Veliky Novgorod

While we are hiding from the rain under an umbrella or a roof, city services are eliminating the consequences of heavy rains and squalls. And the online newspaper "Novgorod" has prepared a short review: in it we tell how bad weather affects the life of our city. In the past week alone, 1,380 messages were received from citizens on the 112 Unified Dispatch Service of Veliky Novgorod asking for immediate help.
Most of the signals were redirected to law enforcement agencies, as the situations required the participation of law enforcement officers. Some calls were redirected to the ambulance station so that medical workers could help people. All other calls, as noted by the duty officers, concerned the housing and utilities sector and the activities of management companies. Heavy rains and squally winds added to the overall statistics of calls with signals about trees falling on roads and sidewalks.
Thus, on Monday, June 30, rescuers from the Municipal Institution "Department for Civil Defense and Emergencies of Veliky Novgorod" went out to remove a problem tree in the courtyard of house No. 11 on Svobody Street: when it fell, it blocked the passage through the courtyard and prevented residents from entering the entrance. It was necessary to arm themselves with an electric saw to clear the passage and entrance for vehicles. All subsequent cleanup actions must be performed by the management company. The day before, rescuers received a request to remove trees felled by the wind from the roadway in the Krechevitsy microdistrict. Crews from the Municipal Institution "City Economy" continue to work in an enhanced mode to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather.

"We also have to work with an electric saw, but in some areas where the wires are damaged, we cannot do without electricians. In the last 2-3 days alone, trees felled by the wind were removed from Lomonosov, Predtechenskaya, Parkovaya and other streets," the Gorkhoz press service reported.
As for the large amount of precipitation, the rains did not have a significant impact on the city's life. Problems - where they arose - were resolved in the normal course of business. However, leaks in the roofs were found in several panel five-story buildings in the Western District. There is only one conclusion: it is time to do some repairs there.
The city's drainage system has withstood difficult tests of heavy rainfall. JSC Novgorodsky Vodokanal notes that the city's storm drain system is generally coping with the load. Where a "weak link" is identified, the emergency service promptly leaves for there, and its teams work around the clock.
"We respond promptly to incoming requests from citizens, but there are not many of them . Necessary measures to clean storm sewer manholes and pipelines are being carried out in working mode. Thus, in the last ten days of June, 11 storm sewer blockages were eliminated, 60 manholes were cleared, and about a kilometer of pipelines were flushed," said JSC Novgorod Vodokanal.
There were also no floods detected in the city due to heavy rainfall.
"There is still one meter to the initial flood level. City residents can orient themselves to the current water level: just look at the lower part of the Alexander Nevsky embankment. If the water does not reach this boundary, then there is no reason to worry," comments Igor SARMATIN, head of the MBU "Department for Civil Defense and Emergencies of Veliky Novgorod."
