Rector of Voronezh State Medical University Igor Yesaulenko Dies

Igor Yesaulenko was born on March 18, 1956 in Zhigulevsk (Samara Region). In 1979, he graduated with honors from the Voronezh State Medical University in the specialty of "medical care", then completed postgraduate studies at the same institute in the department of normal physiology.

In 1977 he became deputy secretary of the Komsomol committee of the institute, and from November 1979 to 1986 he was secretary of the committee. From 1982, after completing his postgraduate studies, he worked as an assistant at the Department of Normal Physiology, and in 1989 he became an associate professor of this department.

From 1986 to 1993, he was the chairman of the trade union committee of the medical institute employees, after which he worked as vice-rector for social and economic issues. In 2000, he was appointed rector of the Voronezh State Medical University.

In 1986 he defended his candidate's dissertation, in 1999 - his doctoral dissertation. In 2000, Igor Yesaulenko was awarded the academic title of professor. Over 25 years, he managed to create new structural divisions of the State Medical University - three institutes, two faculties, 10 departments.

His research interests included normal physiology, as well as issues of environmental safety of life, optimization of the activities of higher medical schools, theory and practice of using information technologies in healthcare management. He is the author of more than 400 scientific publications, including 17 monographs, seven textbooks and teaching aids. Under his supervision, 15 candidate and four doctoral dissertations were prepared and defended.

Igor Yesaulenko was an academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, a member of the presidium of the Voronezh branch of the United Russia party, and the executive secretary of the Council of Rectors of Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities of the Russian Federation. He was awarded the USSR medal "For Valiant Labor", the "Excellent Healthcare Worker of the Russian Federation" badge, and other certificates and medals.

His teaching and scientific activities have been marked by honorary titles and awards - the G.K. Zhukov Medal of the Russian Federation, the honorary title "Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation", the honorary medal of the A. Schweitzer International Medical Society, the second-degree Sergius of Radonezh Medal, departmental certificates and medals.
