The early hours of Sunday, September 28, were marked by tragedy in Grand Blanc, Michigan, United States ( USA ), when a shooting followed by a fire broke out at a Latter-day Saints (LDS) church .

Images and videos of the attack began circulating on social media , showing the chaos and desperation of parishioners and residents in the area.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the incident and called it a heartbreaking act: “This violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and shocking . I ask you to join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy , ” she said in a statement.

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ( ATFHQ ) immediately responded to the scene to assist local authorities in the investigation and emergency control efforts.

For his part, Kash Patel, director of the FBI's 9th Field Office, reported that federal agents are already working at the scene. "We are following reports of the horrific shooting and fire at an LDS church in Grand Blanc. Violence at a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act. Our prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible tragedy," Patel stated.

The Grand Blanc Police Department confirmed that the shooter was shot down and that there is no threat to the population at this time.
