This latest shooting occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, about 80 kilometers (about 50 miles) north of Detroit, local police reported in a social media post. The church was on fire.

Police later stated that there is no further threat to the public.

Shooting in North Carolina

A shooting in a picturesque coastal town in North Carolina that left three people dead and five others injured was a "highly premeditated" attack, police said Sunday.

Police Chief Todd Coring said at a news conference Sunday that Nigel Edge of Oak Island is accused of opening fire from a boat toward a crowd gathered at American Fish Company in Southport.

He added that the location had been "selected" but gave no further details.

The shooting, which erupted around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, took place near a popular stretch of bars and restaurants in the historic port city about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Wilmington. Investigators said Edge piloted a small boat near the shore, stopped briefly, fired shots, and then sped away.

Edge was arrested on three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He could face additional charges, Coring said.

Edge will have his initial court appearance on Monday, District Attorney Jon David said. He is being held without bail.

It is not yet known whether Edge has an attorney to speak on his behalf. No attorney is listed in the court documents.

About half an hour after the shooting, a Coast Guard crew spotted a person matching the suspect's description pulling a boat out of the water at a public ramp on Oak Island. The person was detained and turned over to Southport police for questioning, authorities said.

Investigators from multiple agencies, including the State Bureau of Investigation and the Coast Guard, remained in the water and on scene Sunday collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Officials did not immediately release the names of the deceased or provide information on the conditions of the injured.
